Brightsquid is a Calgary company that builds secure communication tools for healthcare. It was founded in 2009 by a pediatric radiologist, a lawyer and a lab executive, and it works with clinics and healthcare organizations in Canada and the United States.

Its main product, Secure-Mail, works like email but encrypts messages and file transfers, so clinics can share patient information with other providers, labs and patients. Clinics get a shared inbox, large attachments and read receipts, and the people they message can sign up for a free account. Brightsquid also offers appointment reminders, secure online forms and tools for screening programs and team-based care.

On the privacy side, it runs privacy impact assessments, provides privacy officer services and offers privacy training, including HIPAA training.
